With the rapid advance of the internet and its wide mix of uses and applications, the world wide web has engaged us in a social revolution and many of us enjoy the benefits this new and powerful form of communication brings. Equally, however, we must always be mindful of the new cyberspaces we inhabit.
As Eric Schmidt once said, “the Internet is the first thing that humanity has built that humanity doesn’t understand, the largest experiment in anarchy that we have ever had.” When charting new territory, it is important that we, as parents, remain vigilant and as well informed as possible so we can ensure the safety of our children. Swedish psychologist Christer Olsson succinctly put it. “Parents, keep track on your children at the computer. The internet can be as life itself. It can be dangerous.”
