Tuesday 28th June saw the annual celebration of The Cheshire Schools’ Book Award in our Academy Theatre. This year was the tenth anniversary of the Award and the Theatre was packed with over 200 students and staff from schools across Cheshire.

The Cheshire Schools’ Book Award runs every year from November – June, with students and staff from Cheshire schools reading from a shortlist of newly published teen books and culminating in a vote for their favourite book.

This years’ shortlist included 13 days of midnight by Leo Hunt, After walkers by Tom Becker, Cuckoo song by Frances Hardinge, Finding Aubrey by Sophie Kinsella, One by Sarah Crossan, Phoenix Rising by Bryony Pearce and The door that led to where by Sally Gardner.

Six authors joined the celebrations – Leo Hunt, Bryony Pearce, Tom Becker, Sally Green, Jon Mayhew and Curtis Jobling – and spoke about their books, their inspiration and took questions from students.

Many thanks to all those who helped out on the night, making it such a great success for the students. We will look forward to next year!
